I've attended some Islamic Lectures and many Aleem mentioned the numbers of sahaba as 1,25000. I would like to know whether these numbers are mentioned in any parts of Qur'an or Hadiths. If so, then please quote the reference.

The answer to your question is as follows:

  We could not find any clear specification in Quran and Hadith about the total number of Sahaba. Hafiz ibne Salah wrote in Muqaddama ibne Salah with  the reference to Imam abu Zur’aa Razi that the number of Sahaba was 1,14000.

۔ قبض رسول اللہ ﷺ عن ماۃ الف واربعۃ عشر الفا من الصحابۃ ممن روی عنہ وسمع منہ وفی روایۃ ممن رآہ وسمع منہ (مقدمہ ابن صلاح 1/400)۔

Moreover, Hafiz ibne Iraqi wrote that it is very difficult to mention the exact number of Sahaba for they moved to different locations in the world. While writing the occurrence of Kab bin malik in tabuk when he fell behind, Imam Bukhari wrote:

اصحاب رسول اللہ کثیر لایجمعھم کتاب حافظ (الاصابۃ فی تمییز الصحابۃ 1/88) ۔
